It's actually slinky, part of the old adventurer tradition. The first heroic adventurer eventually acquired enough riches and loot that quest rewards were no longer resulting. Driven to help people anyway, grateful quest givers would offer a slinky instead, being a toy that's fun for everyone, regardless of their possessions.

When the adventurer class system was codified, the highest level is considered to be equal to their progenitor, where simple reward is no longer as important as the actual adventure (of course, economic pressure and the costs inherent in any adventure mean that the only quests that can just pay a single slinky are an S-Class hero's induction and retirement, which are purely ceremonial in nature).
